Zillertal Steam Loco, 2

Austria´s most famous steam locos are the unique "U-series" 0-6-2s. Built in 1900, U2 "Zillertal" is one of several steam locos that still pull classic passenger coaches across the Ziller Valley. With this LGB model, you can capture the distinctive look of the U-series, including the large spark-arresting smoke stack. The cab doors open to reveal a lighted and detailed cab.

The Prototype
The distinctive "U-series" 0-6-2s are among the most popular narrow gauge steam locos in Austria. Today, several of these locos continue to delight railfans and tourists on museum railways.
The famous Zillertalbahn runs through the picturesque Ziller valley in Tyrolia. This busy railway carries large volumes of passengers and freight on modern trains, but it also features regular steam operations during the summer months.
U2 "Zillertal," the prototype of this model, was built at the Krauss Locomotive Works in 1900 (U1 "Raimund" was scrapped years ago). Today, it is one of several steam locos that pull their beautifully restored passenger cars along the green valley floor, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Alps.
