WP&Y Diesel Loco, 108, Sound

The Alaskan gold rush is the stuff of legends, immortalized by the tales of Jack London. The White Pass & Yukon Railroad was built to carry prospectors from Skagway into the inhospitable interior. The gold is long gone, but the WP&Y has survived to this day. For the railway’s ore and container trains, the American Locomotive Company (Alco) built ten large diesel-electric locomotives in 1969. These locos form the backbone of the locomotive fleet of the modern WP&Y. This powerful LGB model is equipped with two Bühler motors to haul heavy freight trains or long passenger consists on your layout. While the loco is working, you enjoy the digitized sounds of a real loco. The sound system includes a bell and a horn, triggered via track magnets or the Multi-Train System.

The Prototype
The Alaskan gold rush is the stuff of legends, immortalized by the tales of Jack London. The White Pass & Yukon Railroad was built to carry prospectors from Skagway into the inhospitable interior. The gold is long gone, but the WP&Y has survived to this day. For the railway’s ore and container trains, the American Locomotive Company (Alco) built ten large diesel-electric locomotives in 1969. After freight traffic was discontinued on the WP&Y, several of these powerful locomotives were sold to Columbia. In the late 1990s, the locomotives were bought back by the WP&Y, because additional locos were needed to cope with the ever-increasing number of passengers.
