Steam Locos

Rügen Steam Loco, 99 4633

These husky 0-8-0 locomotives have been hard at work on Germany´s Rügen Island for nearly nine decades. Even today, they can be seen steaming through the fields and along the tree-lined roads of this picturesque Baltic vacation spot. This LGB model was the first LGB loco with four inline drive axles. However, advanced engineering allows you to operate this big model on even the smallest radius (R1) of LGB track. The model is a faithful replica of the original in its Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) livery. It features a smoke generator, automatic directional lanterns and a detailed cab interior.

The Prototype
Between 1913 and 1925, the Vulcan Locomotive Works built three locomotives for the Rügensche Kleinbahnen (Rügen Local Railways) on the Baltic island of Rügen. When most private railways in East Germany were taken over by the government in 1949, the powerful locos became 99 4631 through 99 4633 of the German Railways (DR). Today, two of these locomotives continue to pull passenger trains through the picturesque fields and forests of Rügen.
