RhB Gravel Train Set, eXtra Premium

This impressive set replicates the trains employed until the 1980s by the Rhätische Bahn to carry ballast for track construction. The set begins with a powerful RhB Ge 2/4 loco in its original “box cab” configuration. To make it even more authentic, the loco includes a digital electronic sound system with sounds recorded from an actual RhB electric loco. The loco also features an onboard Multi-Train System decoder.
Behind the loco, you’ll find a replica of an RhB container car plus two additional, specially marked gondola cars, each equipped with their own gravel transport containers. It’s all you need to bring this train back to life on your LGB layout.

This is an eXtra Premium product.

The Prototype
The Engadin line of the Rhätische Bahn (Rhaetian Railway) from St. Moritz to Scuol is one of many narrow gauge lines in Switzerland’s Graubünden canton. From its inception, this line was electrified, and in 1913, the RhB purchased seven light electric locomotives for the line. These "Ge 2/4" class locos were numbered 201 to 207.
Power from the loco’s slow-running motor was transferred directly, without intermediate gears, via main rods to a transfer axle and then via connecting rods to the large drive wheels.
The locomotives were used in passenger and freight service. Several of these locomotives were rebuilt as switching locos with central cab, but a few are preserved in their original shape. Until the 1970s, these locos were used to haul light freight trains on the Engadin line.
