DR Mallet Steam Loco, Sound

After World War I, the Bayerische Staatsbahn (Bavarian State Railways) bought this huge meter-gauge Mallet from the military. Later, the loco became Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) number 99 201. This massive LGB model features a digital electronic sound system.
Using actual steam loco recordings, the model reproduces every sound from the steam chuff to the squealing brakes.

The Prototype
In 1917, the Heeresfeldbahn (military field railway) ordered a huge meter gauge Mallet locomotive from Henschel & Son. To distribute the weight, a six-axle configuration was chosen.
Later, the loco was sold to the Königlich Bayerischen Staatsbahnen (Royal Bavarian State Railway), where it was classified as Gts 2x4/4 996. After formation of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR or East German Railways), the loco was renumbered 99201. It was used on the branch line from Eichstätt to Kinding until this line was regauged to standard gauge in 1934.
