Breitenau Electric Loco, Green
In 1913, AEG built two electric locos, E1 and E2, for the Lokalbahn Mixnitz-St. Erhard in Austria. This LGB model of the E1 "Breitenau" is based on original drawings and replicates the loco equipped and painted as it was first delivered. Instead of a modern scissor pantograph, you'll find an old-fashioned "Lyra" pantograph on the roof. However, unlike the original, the LGB model can be operated with either track or overhead catenary power. Onboard electronics provide voltage stabilization and short circuit protection.
The Prototype
When Austria’s Mixnitz-St. Erhard Railway was inaugurated in 1913, the line was one of the first electric railways anywhere. Two small electric locos were built by AEG. For more than 70 years, they hauled short mixed trains over the scenic 10.4 km (6.5 miles) from Mixnitz to St. Erhard.Originally, loco E1 was painted green and named “Breitenau.” An old-fashioned “Lyra” pantograph was mounted on the roof.
