DR Salt Car, 99-40-91

This small car has a real prototype. It was used during the winter months to put salt onto the rails to keep them clear. Despite its short length – only 5 meters (16 ft. 5 in.) – the car was equipped with two brakemen’s platforms. Thus, the closed car body probably was only 3 m (9 ft. 10 in.) long. The car was used on the electrically operated narrow-gauge railway in Klingenthal. This meter-gauge line was part of the DR. The LGB model features the authentic lettering of the car that was stationed in Klingenthal. Similar cars may have existed on other lines.
